This USA publication of this book is a few months away, but I picked up a copy in London recently. As with the other books in this series, it's a touching collection of glimpses into the lives of neighbors and friends from a neighborhood in Edinburgh, Scotland. The reason I love Alexander McCall Smith is because of all the truths about the human condition that he stirs in with his plots. I am continuing to enjoy the exploits of the Edinburgh characters in this serial, and this one highlights some big changes for Bruce. Will they last? I'm very curious to see.

I just love Alexander McCall Smith's books. They don't have any tremendous action or intrigue but I really enjoy the tone and the "slice of life" stories.
With this series, I like all the characters and it is fun to see how their lives progress.
Poor Bertie! I can't wait to see if he finally gets out from his mother's stifling parenting. At least his father finally started to act on Bertie's behalf a bit - things are looking up I think! ...more
