Okay, I tried and tried and tried with this book ( I listened to the audio). I question that this was listed as a mystery--by disc 6 I'm asking myself, when does the mystery start? I liked the Scottish reader--I enjoyed learning some things about modern day Scotland and hearing the turns of phrase and imagining the breathtaking beauty of the country. I raved about book #2 in this series, but this one (the third installment) was more of a mixed review for me. The story went so many different directions that it felt a little scattered, and I was unsatisfied with the ending, especially knowing how it will effect future books in the series. The author's portrayal of our protagonist Isabel is certainly strong enough that I've developed a sort of relationship with her. She is very finely written. Since the main character is a philosopher, there are a lot of questions that arise in this book about morals, morality, etc. When I started the series, I disagreed with many of her choices & ideas. I still do! I kept reading the books because I was intrigued by the characters, but it's to the point now that I'm fed up and disappointed enough with them that I doubt I'll be back if there's another one in the series.
