I love this series. I love the simplicity of life they enjoy, and the simple but true values that the main character has. The author is very insightful, and although the books are written simply and don't contain a lot of excitement, there is much to learn from them and every time I read them I find myself agreeing with the conclusions he has had the characters make. Reading a new book in the Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency series is as comfortable and reassuring as your mother cooking your favorite meal for you. No real surprises to them; they are the least mysterious mysteries ever written. I love that I can read an Alexander McCall Smith book and be comfortable knowing what the story will be like. This one surprised me. Character growth, with the same sense of common sense that I so rely on.

This was good, pretty good even, just not as great as the others in the series that I've read. Still definitely worth picking up though!
