To be honest, I'd have to call this series a guilty pleasure. The plotlines don't always ring true to life, although I've never been a wealthy philosopher living in Scotland, with a major crush on my niece's ex-boyfriend, a bassoon player who's at least a decade younger than me. I'm not as intellectual as Isabel, or as nosy, but I happen to love anyone who ponders the bigger moral questions in life, and who loves a crossword puzzle and a cup of freshly brewed coffee. The first of the Isabel Dalhousie series. I read it at least 5 or 6 years ago and didn't really love it compared to the First Ladies Detective Agency series, to which I unfairly compared it. Since then, as I've read subsequent books in the series, though, I've really enjoyed Isabel Dalhousie and her adventures and dilemmas of moral philosophy. Maybe I'll re-read this one sometime.

Murder Mystery. I love his Ladies #1 Detective Agency series so I thought I'd try this series. I wasn't impressed. Plot fell flat.
