They say a true fan is one who cannot find fault with that thing they are a fan of - football fans will always love their team, win or lose. I am a fan of Alexander McCall Smith. I am NOT a fan of serialized novels, but the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books are the exception. I love the ease of life in Botswana and Smith's way of writing them. This series never loses its charm. This is the 9th (and my sister sent the 10th to me, so that one is next to read, I guess!), and Mma Ramotswe and her 'sidekick' Mma Makutsi continue their amusing and heartwarming adventures. Funny, sweet and wise. Another wonderfully gentle and witty Mma Ramotswe book.

I have several friends that have read and enjoyed all of these, as well. I tried one of his other series (He's quite prolific), but couldn't get into it. Suprisingly, it was the one about residents of an apartment in Scotland. I was very ...more

The whole series is delightful. I love that a man can be so candid about men. I love hearing about Botswana and about traditional women. I said hearing because these books should be listened to on CD to hear how the places, people and things are pronounced.
