This second entry in Smith's Botswana-set series picks up right where the wonderful "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" left off. Indeed, the two books are utterly seamless, and it'd be a real shame to read this without reading its predecessor first.

Second in the Ladies' No 1 Detective agency series. I like the way this book developed the characters in greater depth, still retaining good descriptive passages and vignettes of African life.
I've read reviews where people accuse AMS of being condescending, but I don'e see this at all. I find it a light, realistic look at unsophisticated country people with a refreshing honesty:- "warts and all". Yea! Yet another jewel! Alexander McCall Smith's adventures of Mma Ramotswe are top choice & 1st class! I was laughing and crying at the same time! Highly recommended.

I thought Tears of the Giraffe was much better than the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I can't wait to pick up Morality for Beautiful Girls.
