I recently watched the pilot of a new BBC series based on this book, and I thought it was wonderful, possibly even better than the books themselves, which is saying a lot, because I loved the books. The story takes place in Botswana, and you won't find a more loving and affectionate portrait of this small African country than here.

This is one of the most beautifully written books I have read in years. I hope that one day it will be taught in schools as an example of a simple, but effective, writing style. What I loved so much about this book was the book’s total simplicity—simplicity of character, plot, writing style, and location.
