This is one of the most beautifully written books I have read in years. I hope that one day it will be taught in schools as an example of a simple, but effective, writing style. What I loved so much about this book was the book’s total simplicity—simplicity of character, plot, writing style, and location. I usually like my fiction on the "heavy" side, but no one (at least no one I know) can read "heavy" fiction all the time. However, when I want something light, I want something light and well-written. AMS' "Ladies Detective Series" fills the bill nicely. I just fell in love with Precious Ramotswe and I love Africa. If I could, I'd visit East Africa today. This series takes me there any time I want to go. Love it!

I actually started watching the HBO series of which these books are based first before I got started reading on the series. I've not put them down since! The only thing lacking in the books is the wonderful African music in the background.
