What Members Thought

This book was slow for me. I put it down to read something else a few times and I don't think I read it fast enough for it all to come together in a meaningful way. I was really disappointed because I LOVED Imaginary Girls. I've read it's better on a re-read, but I probably won't get to it any time soon.

I was intrigued by this book after a recommendation from YA author, David Levithan.
This a fabulous supernatural thriller about a seventeen-year-old girl, Lauren, who is having terrifying visions about 17 year old girls who have gone missing. One missing girl in particular, Abby, keeps appearing to her and leaving clues as to where and how she disappeared. Lauren's boyfriend is stymied by her obsession and her mother is worried that Lauren may be having a mental breakdown. But Abby is persistent ...more

I liked that I thought the book was going in one direction, and that I turned out to be wrong. The set-up is an attention-grabber; seventeen year-old Lauren is mystically approached by seventeen year-old girls who have gone missing, urging her to find them. This turns out to be a full time job, as Lauren turns away from her own life to conduct obsessive searches.

I had a hard time getting into this book - I think it took me two weeks to read 50 pages. But then I finished the rest in one day. Lauren is an excellent, sympathetic character - she's a bit unreliable as you don't know if she's actually seeing ghosts or having a psychiatric episode, but it works really well. The prose is excellent, though the pacing is a bit uneven, and characters are occasionally introduced and then forgotten. I'm really glad I stuck with this one. I don't normally like the cr

I read this one in just one day. Amazing, in large part because it starts off in a way that seems very predictable, then twists you around with a totally unexpected surprise. I won't write more of a review for fear of giving spoilers, but honestly when the twist came, I didn't know what to believe. Awesomely done!

Not sure what I think of this one. The writing is lovely, but then sometimes it's overdone. I was compelled to keep reading, but I wasn't sure I liked it. I think there are some pacing issues at times. Going to keep mulling it over.
