First of all I have to say that M. Manekofsky was right! This was a great read with a character you will absolutely fall in love with. More than that this is the book every "cusp of middle school" child should read.

I was thinking of a conversation that Jamie Johns Whitehurst and I used to have about YA and even Juv materials. It seems like in the majority of these materials the reoccurring theme is that one or both parents are missing, dead or neglegent in some way. No one writes the story abou

I think this is a great book for folks ages 8+ to read. The gist is to go above and beyond in being kind to others. Good middle grade read about not judging people on initial impressions . As a life rule I continually strive to remember that you have no idea what goes on in the hearts and minds of other people nor what they are going through personally so to try to be less judgey and this book was a good reminder of that for me. I liked the main characters and all of the additional characters especially his family. The ending was a little too neat for me but I liked the rest so I am overlooking it.

I really enjoyed this book! Yes it was sad at times but I felt it was well written & it accurately described how middle school kids act toward other kids. Especially if they are at all different. This book also showed compassion & empathy. Really loved it.
