This is one of the better books I've read! A bit too serious at the end for my taste, but I still loved this book! I absolutely COULD NOT put this book down! The great thing about this book is that you can totally see this as happening in real life. This was good in a different way than most of the books I've read. It's a different kind of book, but it was still amazing. (view spoiler) ...more

Oh boy...that time again. I've finished another book.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

I'll save the cover for the end...mix it up a bit.

If I could describe Divergent by Veronica Roth in one word it would be: Intense. This Dystopian YA story pulls you in from the beginning when the main character, Beatrice, is forced to make a choice that would transform her forever. Set in a dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to a particular virtue- Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). At the age of sixteen Beatrice, along ...more

Wow, what an incredible, powerful read! I laughed, I cried. I was overjoyed, disgusted, stunned, excited. I smiled, I frowned. It was truly an amazing roller coaster ride for me. The story itself is very well-developed and the concept of this dystopian future comprised of five factions is interesting, creative, and effective for this book and the many sequels I hope will follow. The book starts with its female protagonist, Beatrice, who must make one choice that will transform her forever: at th ...more

I've realized that for some reason dystopia has (FINALLY!) become extremely popular all of sudden, probably since we are heading into the 2012 year. Divergence is one of those books and fortunately it's one of the better ones. Although it is a good read and the plot is very interesting, it was a little cliche and not something we all haven't seen before, which makes me question why it was voted the favorite book of 2011. The main character Tris (Beatrice) was a bit typical of a dystopian female ...more

Divergent is the only other dystopian novel I've read besides Hunger Games. And if you liked Hunger Games, this is a book just for you!

Divergent is set in a setting wherein the citizens of the society are classified according to what kind of life they choose to lead. They are divided into five different factions with each faction dedicated to a certain trait which they believe is the key towards achieving progress and preventing another war.

Beatrice Prior (who came to be known as Tris) is undou

I absolutely LOVED this book!!! It was so fast paced, suspenseful, emotional, heart-breaking and so much more!!!! One thing I must say is how Veronica Roth constructed Tris' character was just phenomenal! Usually when I read YA fiction the female lead character can be very irrational at times, and come off as whiny and annoying, but I found myself really cheering for Tris. I really loved that she was so independent and strong, and also very likable. I just loved this book so much and I cannot wa ...more

So I have a love hate thing going with this book. I love it because it was an interesting take on the dystopian genre that's everywhere. I hated it because there was this great build up and then the ending was kind of a let down. It was a bit predictable and there where a few situations that the MC got herself into that had me scratching my head. I will, however, be reading the next one because I really loved the characters in this book. ...more
