I'm so happy that I finally tackled this beast! What a wonderful epic adventure/romance/thriller! Edmund Dantes, a young man poised on the brink of a glorious life, sees it all snatched away by the lies of a couple of jealous comrades--one wants his job, the other his girl. Dantes is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. This book is nothing like the 2002 version of the movie (just in case you were like me, loved the movie, and were excited to read that story, this book, isn't that story). It's still a good book though. It's very long, prepare yourself, but I read it for fun when I was in high school so it's definitely doable. My three favorite things in the book: one, the Count (I loved his character), two, the plot (it's a complex plot), three, the way the Count has to deal with God and his own soul. The devel ...more

Really enjoyed the reading experience. The book read like a modern book in the fact that I was hooked and flew through it. Usually with classics I have to push through but with this one I couldn't put it down.

Love to tell people that the tv show Revenge is based on this book.
