I struggled through the first half of this book, mostly because of the writing style which is a bit on the heavy and dramatic side (not nearly as “modern” as my homie Tolstoy). Also… why on earth do Russians insist on interchangeably referring to characters by their first names, family names, and pet names…?

It must be such a privilege to be able to read this masterpiece in its own language.
Oh friends, where do I start… I finally finished reading Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment and I’m madly in love with it. The story, the characters, the ideas, monologues, it’s beyond words. Considering Dostoevsky wrote this during political turmoil at that time in Russia and was highly influenced by the complexity of his life experience… this was quite a read.
