This is just beyond belief!
The heroine is the impoverished daughter of a professor and a well born woman. When her father dies, her mother supports them by working as a seamstress. She eventually attracts the attention of a wealthy noble client and sends Amanda (16) out by herself to get some extra lace so that the dress can be finished on time.

This book was like a horrible comedy of errors for Amanda. One thing terrible after another... And the only thing she had to hold on to was her Tony. What a couple of weak minded people they were too! He made me sick, there was nothing redeeming about him. He was just a sick bastard, if she thought he was the best she could do, well if it was me, I'd have committed suicide. I'd never trust him again, he proved how he wasn't trustworthy and yet Amanda kept going back to him. What a little idiot.
