This book was everything I expected, and then some. Very emotional and thought-provoking.
It takes place in Texas (western, I think) during a dark period in our country's history. White settlers are encroaching in ever-increasing numbers on Indian land. Catherine Anderson does a great job describing the atrocities on both sides. The reader realizes how much is lost. You sympathize with both the hero and heroine.

Tortured hero and heroine... a dramatic subplot (which will be covered I assume in the next in the series), kidnapping, war, near death experiences...

An Excellent and well written Western Historical Romance. This 'genre' of Romance is not currently in vogue which is a shame. Sadly, many wish to forget or do not wish to acknowledge the 'American West' of the 19th Century. Not PC, different social mores, VIOLENCE? Not a time for 'navel gazers' or those in denial with the true nature of humans. I guess this one is for 'mature audiences' only.

This was a 4.5 stars read for me. I really enjoyed the traditional 90's style of story telling and a realistic growing and evolving romance between the H and h.
