Well, I finished the book and are you ready for a shocker! I enjoyed the movie more! If the book would have just been the story instead of all the author's comments I would have enjoyed it more. And I didn't enjoy the last chapter, Buttercup's Baby. It just didn't mesh well with the original Princess Bride to me.
So, this time, unbelievably, movie beats book in my opinion. ...more

I'll admit I did see the film before I read the book, however I don't think that detracted from the book in anyway. This is a classic fairytale with the traditional heroes and villians and happy ending however it's also a tale that knows when its using cliches and uses them with a very tongue in cheek manner. The Princess Bride is one of my all=time favorite movies. So have wanted to read it for a long time. And well, bits I loved. Esp. getting backstories on Inigio and Fezzik. But I think the story and characters are so cemented in my mind that I felt a little let down.
