What can I say about an all-time favorite classic that has had an audience of readers mezmerized for decades? I really can't review a classic book such as this because it is simply a masterpiece of fantasy with characters that are entertaining and delightful...my favorite being, of course, the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. For a very long time, I staunchly refused to read this book. We had a copy of the animated version when I was little, and I was terrified of it. The giant spiders, the goblins, the dragon, Gollum...you name it, I was scared of it. Anyway, needless to say I got over my fear and read the book. It is an excellent story - much easier to take in than any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I'm pretty excited for the live action movie, although I hope that the goblins don't actually sing this time. ...more

I am so glad I read this again! I first read it in Jr. High... or, should I say, it was read to me by an English teacher. I played Dungeons & Dragons for years, so I know all about hobbits and dwarves and dragons. What I did not realize, though, is how well written this book is! I guess I should not be surprised. It is a classic, after all. But I just completely enjoyed it, and I can't wait until the Hobbit movie comes out next year! ...more
