Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero is an engrossing start that improves upon what came before. Though I liked the Percy Jackson series, it feels like an early work in comparison to this.
Everything that made the first series fun remains. The mix of mythology and the everyday world is still entertaining and done in a creative way. The stakes feel dire and appropriately grand. Absolutely loved this book. I've read all of Riordan's other mythology series and his writing has definitely improved since the first PERCY JACKSON book. Anyway, I loved the introduction of Jason and Leo (Piper's OK) and I was so glad we got to see Anabeth even if it was for a bit. Very exciting first book. I can't wait for more Roman/Greek stories!
