I wish GoodReads had a Did Not Finish button. I got up to about page 118, when I realized that I just wasn't interested. Maybe this wasn't the book to start on for my fairytale retellings reading, or maybe it's just because I don't like the tale of Rumpelstiltskin in the first place. It may have even been the fact that this book was about a mill, and that part just didn't interest me. I don't know.

This is a fantastic retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. It is aimed at the young adult audience, but it well written.
I was a bit frustrated with our young heroine as she makes her poor choices and doesn't let those she should trust help her, but it is a fairy tale and that would have made the story end too soon. ...more

I really wanted to like this book, but I found the incredible amount of descriptions really bogged me down. I was determined to keep going, until I hit Charlotte and Randall's spontaneous engagement. There was no real buildup to them getting engaged and I found their relationship to be incredibly unbelievable. I could see some teens sticking this one out, but I couldn't do it. ...more
