Even as a kid I thought this story was pretty heavy on the sanctimonious didacticism, but it still has great imagery. And my version had very pretty illustrations.

This classic children's novel , written in Victorian times is whimsical and charming . The protagonist Tom , escapes from his hard life by being turned into a water baby. This is the beginning of his many adventures . As Tom is a mischievous young lad her meets Mrs Bedonebyasyoudid and Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby, who appear many times and are instrumental in his growth towards good behaviour and greater altruism.
