This book has been a revelation for so many people. I have to admit it wasn't for me. I remember that at the time I enjoyed it, but thought it lacked authenticity. I am still looking for the Arthurian novel that shatters my expectations and breaks the mold. I think Mordred Bastard Son is probably the most radical departure in the Arthurian genre that I've read, but I didn't care for the portrayal of women. I have some hopes for The Sword of Avalon, the next book in the Avalon series.
