In my childhood, my parents read the original Oz books to us (or at least a lot of them), so I've been curious about this book for a while. I was uncertain if I'd like it at first: how could you take the Wicked Witch of the West and make her sympathetic? Not sure how I feel about this book. This is not your average fairy tale The story is being told about the wicked witch of the west. She is born to a mother who has occasional flings with men who happen to wander through the town, one of which fathered Elphaba, unbeknownst to her husband Frex.
