Throughly charming.

There's a good balance between a more modern portrayal of a female (no damsels in distress here!), good rational behind events, and truthfulness to the original tale.

There's plenty of strong female characters without denying the males their roles or their strengths. Characters have solid motivations for their actions, instead of just doing something because it was that way in the original and all the seemingly random elements of the original tale all fit together like a puzzle

I really enjoyed reading this wonderful fairy tale... ended up staying up until 2am two nights running to finish it! It has been fun reading some young adult books, and this wonderful story has left me wanting to read more.
