What Members Thought
The rating says it all. Not a great book but the nonetheless I enjoyed it. As a Stars Wars fan I really had no expectations in regards to how the books would translate to someone who is primarily a fan of the movies.
I was pleasantly suprised to find that my enjoyment of the book was the fact that the plot and characters bore no relation to the movies.

My actual rating is 2.5 stars.
A book set in the EU. This book is about a girl who is strong in the force and her brother who is not. This book explores their development and how they deal with this development. I did enjoy this dynamic. My problem with this book was the expectation from its title. This novel could have been set anywhere in the EU timeline and was misleading. This was a good book but not great. I'm not a huge fan of that time period of Star Wars so I didn't have a strong committment to the characters and storyline. I seemed to serve more as a large background book for the beginning of the jedi. It was interesting seeing certain characters within the book that are extreme minorities in the Empire/Rebellion era onward (Noghri, Sith). It seemed odd having those characters are part of the story knowing how rare they become. I was waiting for the author t

I mean, it's not bad at all. There are a lot of interesting elements and touches. Unfortunately there aren't many memorable locations or story elements. The main bad guy is just a vindictive tool whose motivations were nonsensical and his hatred was not only misplaced, but totally random to begin with. I thought this was a pretty cool story. It was the first contact I had with the Dawn of the Jedi storyline, so I had to look up some things to learn what they were. They don't really explain the back story behind the Jedi in this story or really what TYA is. It's a good read, though. I wish the were going to be continuing writing these novels, but that probably won't be happening because of the new movies and the canon/legends thing.
