Dark Journey (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order, #10) in The Expanded Universe

Almost want to give this one star, though it's more so because of the book this book overlaps, and perhaps out of sheer disappointment. The previous novel in the New Jedi Order series is "Star by Star." And SbS is a great book, filled to the brim with gripping moments and emotion. The book ends at a peaking crescendo, that this book tries to start immediately from.
My main problem with this book is that it doesn't breathe with any of the vibrancy that I felt in SbS, which, for me personally, left Almost want to give this one star, though it's more so because of the book this book overlaps, and perhaps out of sheer disappointment. My main problem with this book is that it doesn't breathe with any of the vibrancy that I felt in SbS, which, for me personally, left a long wide empty gap for this book to echo when it fell flat.
As I said, the book start right where the last one stopped rather abruptly and oh so cliffhanger like. So in a way it finishes the last story at the beginning of this book. And then, after that, the story of Dark Journey seems to begin. A bit unconventional, and that might have thrown me off as well.
As for the main story.
Without giving anything away, this book lacks emotion (after thunderous emoting events), and though some of the main characters in this are numb by being taken beyond capacity by said events, it for me at least, the story itself lacked general emotion, which I think had that been there, would have been an appropriate contrast that brought out how painful it can feel to hardly be able to feel, numbness, and so on.
The right main character(s) were highlighted but I think this book misses the mark in the pivotal places that should have been hit. The heart and soul. Science fiction in general to me seems like a magnifying glass to the human elements, of all we know.. ..and I think with the when's & how's, & who's, and what's of this book it had everything set up to hold this particular book close to your chest while reading this story. And it didn't. At least for me.
With all of that feeling amiss, I read much of the location and inner politics of this book like I ate the plate of food I had to finish before I could leave the table as a kid.
So much of it seemed out of place, and left me wondering exactly how prevalent that story even was to the NJO series.

I change my mind. I don't give this book a two star rating, wanting to give it a one star..
..I give this book an afternoon wasted worth of room temperature mound of cottage cheese at six years old.
Naw. That's a bit harsh. It was better than that. But we're setting the bar low. ...more
