I really like the Thrawn character, and if you’ve read any of my SW reviews you know I hold Timothy Zahn in the highest regard for inspiring the entire Expanded Universe (now called Legacy), so I really wanted to love this one.

It’s good. It’s very well written. Thrawn is still a very compelling character. The book establishes his tactical brilliance very well. I suppose part of the problem is that he is so smart that he wins every battle before it starts.

A great character. A great author. This combo launched the expanded universe into the juggernaut it became. I love that they are back in the official mouse cannon.

Finally a solid Star Wars novel. After the Aftermath nonsense felt like this book got us back on track. Very similar in some respects to Lost Stars (another terrific book) in that it recounts events before Episode 4 and the obvious hints with what's to come. Highly recommend this book and I can only hope there's more to come from Timothy Zahn

I love Timothy Zahn's earlier Star Wars books, and this didn't disappoint either. Thrawn is a great character, very creative, innovative, and intelligent. Also, the addition of his aide was interesting, evoking the Sherlock/Watson dynamic. Great book for fans of Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. ...more
