★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Nicely narrated by Kate Russell; I enjoyed her voice speaking in first person POV as Gwendolyn Kidd. She made a couple of minor slips; like, not whispering a time or two when a character whispered, but these were very minor. She did a nice job on Cabe “Hawk” Delgado – yum! – too. There seemed to be some replacement “dubbings” in a few parts that would change the sound level, but the story was so good, it didn’t really take me out of the story for long. ...more

This author has gotten so much hype here on GR, so I worried that when I finally decided to read it, it wouldn't live up to those raves. I can happily say that it didn't. Right from the start I was sucked into this one, to the point that I didn't want to go to work, just wanted to read it all day til I was done.

This one took me a while get into. In it's defense, I had just come off a devastating great read. The kind that make you unable pick up a book because you know nothing will compare and you're still so attached. I'm beginning to understand how best to handle Kristen Ashley's books. I must read them, separated by considerable length of time, months, and need to be in a mood for complete fantasy. To read them immediately one after another would be overdosing on the macho, hotness, badassness and neaderthalness that are her heroes and the kooky, quirky, sassy, cuteness that are her heroines. I really liked this book as a whole, but I had a hard time with the whole year-and-a-half relationship prior to the real relationship. What Worked For Me:
This was a solid and entertaining read. Overall, the plot was well thought out and full of suspense and intrigue. Hawk, our Hero, was full of alpha-hotness, was brooding and heroic, if slightly dense when it comes to Gwen. Not recognizing that he loves her and almost letting her go and losing her was a big wake-up call for his damaged and tortured soul. Gwen, our heroine, is strong and independent and has a massive stubborn streak. She lives in a rainbow colored bubble most of What Worked For Me:

Gwen, our heroine, is strong and independent and has a massive stubborn streak. She lives in a rainbow colored bubble most of the time, loving diamonds and expensive shoes and cosmos. And the men love her. Seriously, they all seem to fall under some type of spell the moment they meet her (see below). She’s strong enough not to be a doormat to Hawk and is strong enough to walk away when he is being stupid and pushing her away (see below). I absolutely love the interaction between Gwen and her father and stepmom. It brought tears to my eyes and were truly beautiful interaction to read. The supporting characters are very entertaining and add a good dose of entertainment, and I really can’t wait to see some of them pop up in future books.

What Didn’t Work For Me:
Hawk seriously needs to come out of the past. While I know everyone has a past, I really do not like my characters having already been in love with someone else because then I feel like the Heroine was never truly his soul-mate. Gwen….I have to wonder, while she’s charming and funny and smart….is her vagina made of rainbows, sunshine and gold? Because seriously, it was annoying that every man seemed to fall for her. No woman is that perfect and that gorgeous. And when Hawk acted like a jackass, she needed to take her foot and plant if firmly between the cheeks of his rear. I could also have done without her getting all tingly during their “break-up” over kissing two other men. That was not cool and I deducted big points off my rating for that alone.

Would I Recommend This Book:
Yes….do those reading friends who don’t mind their Hero and Heroine having pasts, break-ups, kissing other people, and acting like total ninnies at the most inopportune moments.
