This 2nd book in the series sets up a lot of details and characters that matter later. This was the closest I came to abandoning the series--but the 2nd half was darn good.
Incidentally, my reading experience with this book exemplifies why I don't like reading with my students. I dislike grabbing a minute or two here and there. Or rather--I'll do it, but it fragments my experience in a way that can definitely and easily lead to a book being abandoned. I was reading this book near the end of the s ...more

I love this series! This book was even better than the first one. I felt like the story got started right away, and I didn't have to worry about all the confusing world building that was in the first. I love Kate and Curran. I was cracking up when she realized that taking the soup from him meant that he was courting her! ha ha. It is funny that everyone realizes that something more is going on with them than her! Kate is kick ass as always and I think we got to know her a little better in this o

Again, a great world building, interesting storyline but I just wasn't gripped and pulled in. I'm giving the third book a go after being told to read it and then planning on deciding whether to give up on the series or to keep going.
Favourite Quotes:
"What's so funny?" "Your panties have a bow," he said.
"Curran had driven me to drinking. At least I wasn't contemplating suicide."
"I'd get to ride to the battle on a bus. The Universe had a mordant sense of humor."
"Loud and clumsy, like a baby rhino, ...more

Better than the first.
The awesomely epic tale of Kate Daniels, a member of the Merc Guild and now liasion with the Pack (shapeshifters) and the People (conductors of the undead - wait, what?), continues apace. I am thrilled that I found this series! It combines world mythology, urban fantasy, contemporary, paranormal romance. It features a lonely heroine who kicks ass, belongs to a mysterious magical bloodline, yet retains her humanity like Mother Theresa. She fights with two swords, one magica ...more

Book 2 in the Kate Daniels series. 4 ½ stars. This series seems to get better and better, I am looking forward to reading the 3rd one in the series, and am excited that the 4th one is being published in May 2010!
Magical flares have descends on Atlanta. The magic always comes and goes, but during a flare (which only happens once every 7 years) the magic stretches come faster, longer, and are much stronger. So, Kate has been charged with finding a set of stolen maps for the Pack. This all seems si ...more

I like the world that Andrews has created with the mix of magic and tech, and it's interesting to see the relationships Andrews introduced in Magic Bites delve deeper. The little tidbits about Kate's past - why she can't let anyone know who she is through her blood, why she's hell bent on killing Roland - are great teasers to make you read the rest of the series. I love Derek's commitment to Kate, and her friendship with Andrea. I have to admit, I'm dying to see what happens with Curran and Kate

Fast-paced addition to the Kate Daniels series. This book does not disappoint. We learn more about Kate and her past in this book. There also seems to be a potential romance evolving between Kate and another character. This book leaves you wanting more. When's the next coming out!?!

Kate Daniels
There wasn't really much plot developement here. I mean as pushing the overall story forward.
I did love the fact that Kate didn't know Curran was courting her. That part was pretty funny. Psyche!
