Darkfever is a perfect example of why I seldom DNF a book, even using the ‘100 page rule’.

I love Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series, so I was really looking forward to finally starting her Fever series, particularly after seeing all the positive talk and reviews over the years. So imagine my surprise to find this, the first installment in the Fever series, less than enjoyable - at least to start with.

Being Urban Fantasy – and this is definitely not Paranormal Romance - Darkfever is written i

So I tried to read this book when it first came out, and it just didn't work for me. I got one or two chapters in and bounced out. A friend recently re-recommended it to me and told me to give it a second chance, and I did. It was also free on the Nook for a time (rock on, Nook!) so I snagged it and read.

Wow, what a fascinating series. I can't say it's "good" because "good" implies that there are happy things for the character to look forward to or that she ends up happy at the end. Instead, thi

If I could, I would give this a 4.75 stars. This is my first experience with Karen Marie Moning and I really, really enjoyed this book. Mac is an intereting and unique character, and the "fever" world is a very refreshing change of pace from what I have read in the past. The only issue that I had were the constant reminders of Mac's appearance of an obsessively Pinkalicious/Legally Blonde kid. However, I'm sure KMM's point is to reinforce Mac's transformation into someone a bit darker, less fluf ...more

It was really good. This is a new series for me. While I didn't love it with the passion of a 1,000 suns like I do IAD, BDB and The Mercy Thompson series, did enjoy it enough that I went and bought the next two books in the series. Thanks to the hundred of my friends who had already read the book. :-) ...more

It's amazing how much more you pick up the second time around. Yes, Mac is still annoying and Barron's is still the ultimate domineering male but I somehow found him less asshole-ish, maybe because I know what is to come? I love how well developed the world is that KMM has created and how easily it is lose yourself in it. ...more

I won't rate this book because I skimmed it. I started reading, but there is a lot of descriptions and pages upon pages of the main character just doing her own thing without any dialogue, so I ended up skimming. I like the relationship between Jerricho and Mac, but the folklore wasn't particularly interesting.
That being said, I'm intrigued enough to skim the next in the series :)
