I did not enjoy this book as much as I liked "Shades of Midnight". I had been looking forward to this one, too, so I'm very disappointed.

First I found it difficult to like Jenna. Granted she'd been through a horrible trauma and was still nursing four-year-old wounds, but then maybe the book should have started later when she was a little less freaked. She was downright unlikable for the first half of the book.

I must say "Taken by Midnight" was a very interesting and emotion charged book cover to cover. Lara Adrian had the right amount of humor, passion, complexity with her characters, and action in this eighth installment in the Midnight Breed series.

After former Alaskan state trooper Jenna Darrow awakens from a frightening ordeal at the hands of an Ancient vampire who held her captive in her home and terrorized her, she is not prepared for the changes that are happening within her nor the attraction I must say "Taken by Midnight" was a very interesting and emotion charged book cover to cover. Lara Adrian had the right amount of humor, passion, complexity with her characters, and action in this eighth installment in the Midnight Breed series.

After former Alaskan state trooper Jenna Darrow awakens from a frightening ordeal at the hands of an Ancient vampire who held her captive in her home and terrorized her, she is not prepared for the changes that are happening within her nor the attraction she seems to have for one of the warriors of the vampire race who is charged with helping her.

Brock is a Breed warrior used to walking alone and does not deal in the longterm when it comes to relationships. He is unprepared for the reaction he has toward Jenna, and he certainly is not ready for the feeling she awakens in him.

As the two get closer to one another emotionally and physically, the war the Order has been fighting against Dragos is getting much more brutal and the stakes are even higher. If the Order cannot destroy Dragos and his evil once and for all, the world will not be the only casulaties in this war as the both Brock and Jenna fight to hold onto what they both have found with one another.

While I have not read all the previous books in this series, I really did enjoy this novel. Brock and Jenna really just worked for me in the overall scheme of things. Throughout the book, the two of them annoyed and entertained me, usually within the same page. I enjoyed their interactions with one another and I enjoyed how they offset one another emotionally and physically. I really like the world Lara Adrian has created and I totally dig the whole urban fantasy-romance aspects about her novels. These books are definitely for any fan of romance with a sci-fi twist and I would recommend them to all readers alike. I will definitely be reading the previous books in this series, and I simply cannot wait to read the next in the Midnight Breed series, Deeper Than Midnight, Hunter's book! ...more

Although it took LA a long time to come out with this book, unlike the last one, I was able to pick up the storyline and remember what was going on. I like the series, which is the first vampire series I began reading, so my POV is colored by that. Brock is very thoughtful and tender with Jenna and she is a strong character and a good fit with the rest of the Breedmates.
