I started AND finished Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas in one night. You all were right, it was a fantastic read and this has got to be the best Kleypas I've read so far. Almost didn't seem like the same author (for me). Extremely sensual and sexy if you can believe that! (I usually associate Kleypas's writing as more on the purply prose side, but not this one! I am on a winning streak with series that just keep getting better. Having just read the latest in the I-Team series by Pamela Clare (Naked Edge) which IMHO was the best in the series so far, I moved straight on to this gem in the Wallflowers series.

I absolutely adored It Happened One Autumn and didn't think Kleypas would be able to top that one, but she just might have managed it. It's hard to say whether I like this one better, because the two are very different. Where It Happened One Autumn ...more

This is my first Lisa Kleypas novel. After finishing this, I can see why she has such a huge fan base. She can write a good story! Who else could write a story that could make you love a bad guy as blunt and as straight forward as Sebastian? I mean, the guy kidnapped a girl in order to force her to marry him... because she was rich and he needed the money! And still I kept grinning at him. Lisa Kleypas is now on my awesome list. Anywho, I couldn't really fault Sebastian because it's not like he hid his intentions. He pretty much just said whatever he was planning. I was practically blushing right along with Evangeline, I wasn't expecting him to just tell all. He was funny, cocky, selfish, handsome, and sweet – a dangerous combination!

I thought Evie was a sweetheart. She was pretty, but since she was so shy and introverted, no guys ever really gave her a second glance. I liked that even though she was considered a wallflower, and she spoke with a stutter, she was still very brave. She wasn't weepy and dependent, she actually took charge (as much as she could) and stood up for herself against folks. You could actually see her grow as the pages went on. You also see Sebastian grow as well, even though it takes him forever to catch on.

Overall I really,really liked it. It was sweet, funny, and romantic. I loved nearly all the characters. A few times Cam did get on my nerves. I thought that Sebastian let him get away with a little too much. But then Cam grew on me. I want to read his story now. The story was well written. I did guess at a few things, but I was never really sure if I was right or wrong. Mostly I was wrong!

I'd recommend this to all romance fans. Even if regency romance isn't your thing, you'd be doing your heart a total disservice by skipping this. Paranormal fans who love seeing an alpha man brought to his knees would also like this (even though there is no paranormal aspects, unless you count Sebastian's unearthly good looks!). I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

You know I love the romantic lines! ...more
