Angelic being, Olivia, has been watching the Lords of the Underworld for some time now- one particular Lord to be specific- Aeron the keeper of the demon of Wrath. When Aeron gets into trouble with the Angelic council for aiding anther lessor demon and releasing her into the world, Olivia has no chance to save him- unless she falls. Making the ultimate sacrifice, she leaves her heavenly home and joins Aeron on earth as a mere mortal- well, a significantly diminished angel anyway.

He has no choice, because no woman is safe around the demon he keeps inside of himself to protect the world… only the demon is strangely soothed by Olivia.

But things get even more complicated when the little demon he’s begun to think of as a daughter makes a pact with Lucifer to win the man she loves with a very adult passion.

Meanwhile the Lords continue to seek out the powerful artifacts that will destroy their arch nemesis and send him to hell once and for all while walking a tightrope between the aid they need from the capricious gods and keeping them at a safe distance.

Will Aeron and Olivia submit to the passion brewing between them like both so desperately want or will both commit the ultimate sacrifice to save each other from destruction?

Okay, a lot going on in this novel and to be honest it served as a major distraction from the potential for a passionate romance between Aeron and Olivia. There was so much going on I simply couldn’t get to know the h/h like I need to for me to really fall for book. Much of how Olivia fell in love with Aaron was relegated to back story- she watched him from the heavens for quite some time before she “fell” to be with him, and that we didn’t see, but were told about it. Still, the other stuff going on was important for the over arching story- so I can’t completely fault Showalter for wanting it in. (How this book ends is actually very important to other characters coming up!) I just wish we could have had more depth from Aeron & Olivia.

Oh and another thing that *really* bugged me, was Aeron’s little demon friend Legion. She was mean and spiteful and not likable at all… I know, I know, she’s a demon, Zeek, its in her nature, but it just made me wonder why Aeron preferred her all the time? I simply didn’t get it and in the end she just annoyed the crap out of me. ::shrug::

So, whereas I’m decidedly less than enthusiastic about this entry into the Lords of the Underworld series, it is important to the totality of it and shouldn’t be missed.

If I ignored the ending, I would say that this was one of my favorite books in the series.

You know, I really liked Olivia. I thought she was funny and sincere. I laughed out loud when she was sitting with Gideon and he said he could see her undies. She asked him if he wanted them and Gideon didn't know what to say. Anywho, you have to read it to see how funny it is! That Olivia, so endearing. I loved how she first reacted to being around the rest of the Lords. And when she had to lean on Aeron b If I ignored the ending, I would say that this was one of my favorite books in the series.

Speaking of Aeron, I liked him as well. He was so tough and surly. In the past books, you really don't get an idea of who he is (besides a killer, but that's beside the point). I didn't know how I felt about him. He wasn't my favorite and I didn't exactly woot when I found out the book would be about him. But you know, he just had a certain thing about him that was cute as well.

And Legion just annoyed me in this book. She came off as so annoying and bratty! Super bratty. I wanted to throttle her at times. I do like how, even though Olivia was weak and not much of a fighter, she stood up to Legion and didn't back down. I wasn't expecting that from her.

Even though I shouldn't like him, I do. William. It's part of his charm but he is so conceited it's funny! Though he kinda creeped me out talking about age at one point.

The one thing that really disappointed me was the ending! I just can't believe that would happen. And why? I just can't see how this will play into future books. (view spoiler) ...more

Love Love LOVED this book. I really didn't want it to end, but I literally couldn't put it down. It was intoxicating. Olivia is a very inspirational character. She knows what she wants.. and she is not afraid or embarrassed to admit it and go for it. Aeron has all the qualities a woman could ever want. The two of them together was a very interesting read because they are practically polar opposites in every way possible... heaven & hell, but they fit each other perfectly. Having a hard time reading this book. Do not care for the female lead and ended up putting it done to read Embrace the Night. Hopefully it picks up because I really enjoy this series.

This book got better but I never reached the point where I liked Olivia.
Loved meeting the new character, Scarlet and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Would have given 4.5 stars if it were an option!

Great book, loved the characters and they just worked perfectly together. Also loved how cheeky the Olivia was it was unexpected coming from and Angel (fallen) :)
