Awesome F-U-N!! I loved this book--I'd rank it right up there with any of the BDB books. Jeaniene Frost writes in a similar witty style as JR Ward does, which I love. I swear I had a smile on my face for 90% of the book. And it was HOT! Not quite erotic, but plenty steamy. I knew that I was in for some steamy reading when the hero Bones was trying to train the heroine Cat not to blush when he 'talked dirty to her'. Whew! This series has been on my TBR shelf for a while and I have put off reading it again and again. WHY???????

Just finished this one and cannot wait for the next. This had a bit of everything; humour, romance, vamps, suspense and a hot, hot, hot hero. Loved the whole premise of the book. This book should come with a warning label: do not read while driving, operating heavy machinery, or on a ten minute break at work! Seriously. When our heroine and her gorgeous vampire beau finally have their big consummation, I was between classes and practically needed a defibrillator before I could face my second-period students.

After reading the second book in this series first and utterly loving it, I just had to read the others. So I bought this, and it did not disappoint at all. This book is the perfect mix of Humor, Romance and Action. There's not too much of one or the other. I'll start with the humor. Cat has some of the best one liners and comebacks I've ever come across. I mean, Worm Food? Telling a creep that accosts her that she hopes worms crap on his corpse. Van Helsing wannabe? This book is the perfect mix of Humor, Romance and Action. There's not too much of one or the other. I'll start with the humor. I laughed so hard when I was reading this I had tears coming out of my eyes. The humor is just some of the best in the genre. Onto the romance. The romance was my hands down favorite part of the book. When it comes to heroes in an Urban Fantasy book, Bones is a refreshing change. I have read quite a bit of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance and one thing that all heroes tend to have in common is that they show no emotion. Basically little short of a nuclear bomb going off in front of their face will make them betray any emotion. Usually because they're really damaged/tortured in some way or other. And while Bones does have some issues, he's not all broody and miserable. And it was refreshing to see him admit his love for Cat fairly early in the book, and keep telling her that he loved her and accepted her no matter what. Usually the hero will admit to himself that he may love the heroine somewhere around the middle of the book, and then spend a good deal of the remainder of the book denying it, until he finally tells her within the last few pages of the book. So I loved that not only did he admit his feelings for her fairly early in the book, but further told her that he'd basically loved her since he first captured her and she was so defiant and brave to him. And he also opened up to her about a pretty painful part of his past, yet another thing that heroes in Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance aren't so inclined to do. Basically they have this whole show-no-weakness-or-pain or she won't love/accept me thing going on or if I admit said weakness or pain, she'll see me as less of a man. And yet another thing that was refreshing is the fact that Bones is romantic, he does sweet little things for Cat and has a really sweet and tender side, that again a lot of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance heroes either don't really seem to have or it's buried pretty deep. Bones was just all around refreshing as an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance hero, and goes down as one of my most favorite vampires ever. And when Cat finally tells Bones that she loves him, it just made me sigh, it was so sweet. As for the action, that was just great too. Bones tells you about strengths vamps have (many) and it is just so cool all the things they can do. Jeaniene really brings the action scenes to life, in a way it's like watching a movie, she writes them so vividly. And Cat kicks some serious butt, I love how tough and smart she is. The plot for the action itself was superb, although a little on the creepy side. My sole and only complaint is the ending, but having read book two already, i of course know that Cat and Bones end up back together and all's well. So it's not that much of a complaint, and she doesn't do it to hurt Bones or because she's scared of loving him. She's doing it to keep him safe. I really want to like this book. Everyone that I've talked to that has read these, loved them. I'm just not feeling it.
I'm not loving the first person. I feel like I don't know Bones at all, and Jeaniene really jumped to the "I love you"s too damn fast.
I'm still reading it as I want to give it a chance, but it's easily put down, and hard to pick up again. ...more

4 ½ stars! This book is awesome!!! In my opinion, it’s not perfect (meaning that there are a few things I personally would have changed), but it’s darn close!

This is, like so many vampire romance books now-a-days written in first person from the heroin’s point of view. The heroine, Catherine Crawfield (Cat) is half-vampire, half-human. How did that happen? Cat’s mom was raped by a newbie vampire and not all of his living sperm had left his body. Five months later Cat was born. Cat’s mom hates v 4 ½ stars! This book is awesome!!! In my opinion, it’s not perfect (meaning that there are a few things I personally would have changed), but it’s darn close!

They are all evil in her mind. So, at 16 years of age Cat started killing vampires, encouraged by her mom. She kills all vampires, and hopes to one day kill her father. Six years later, we get to meet Cat. She is now 22 and still killing vampires. One night she comes across and tries to kill Bones (the hero). She doesn’t succeed of course, and in exchange for not killing her they come to an agreement. Bones gets to train Cat and afterwards she has to help him kill certain vampires he wants killed. So, Bones is basically a vampire bounty hunter. During the training Bones beat the CRAP out of her- to make her a better fighter of course. It worked. After the training she becomes even more deadly then she was before. Bones and Cat work together bringing down the big bad vampires. More specifically they bring down a vampire business of human-take-out-food ring. Of course, during the course of the book Bones and Cat fall for each other. The ending leaves you shocked and itching to pick up the sequel! Be warned- do not start this book without having number two right there with you or you may start to experience withdrawal.

This book is packed with wit, action, and a good romance. It is nice to read a vampire romance book that has a hard-as-nails heroine who isn’t crazy… Yes, you already know which crazy ones I’m talking about. And the humor! I was laughing out loud at several different parts of this book! And there are not just certain characters that are funny either. There are hilarious scenes and great one-liner quips. The action, my gosh, it feels so good to read this type of action again. I’ve been missing that since a certain series (Ahhem, that would be the Anita Blake series) has pretty much dried up. I have to say that I wasn’t quite sure about this book since at the beginning basically Bones beats up Cat, but that ends pretty quickly and later on you discover why he did that.

Oh, and one more thing. The author referred to an interstate as THE I-whatever the number was. Okay, living ON the east coast, and frequently traveling to the mid-west (and the west coast for that matter) that is NOT how it is said on either east coast or mid-west by the residents. Only the west-cost people put “THE” in front of an interstate (e.g. the 5… meaning I-5). Since Ms. Frost lives in Florida I have to assume that the editor changed that? Either way, I had to put that in there because for some really weird reason it just bothered me.

Cat is a self styled vampire killer. And half vampire herself. She is doing pretty well on her own. Then she meets Bones, a vampire, who is a bounty hunter who also kills vampires. He forces her to team up with him. And they both find forces at work that are bigger than they expected.

I like Cat. She is young, brass and determined. But motivated by hate until she learns that all vampires are not the same.

I'm so glad I've finally started this series. I love Bones and Cat. Bones is a Master Vampire meaning he's older and Cat is a Vampire Huntress. She is half vampire/half human. I think it was well written and she completely conveys the fact that Bones has an English accent. I found myself reading with one where needed. LOL ...more

I kept coming across the names Cat and Bones in some of the groups on GR so I was very excited to read this and see if the book lives up to all the hype.

I am happy to say that I thought it was great!
For a first book in a series I thought it flowed really well and read very easy. I didn't have to think about all the vamppire details they were all pretty basic and I liked that. ( unlike Michelle Meads vampire Academy series)

I couldn't help but draw parallels between the character in this book and Buffy and Spike.
Since I was never much of a Spike fan this did sort of interfere for me.

Overall its a decent story and engaging characters. I will probably read the next even though the ending was terrible.
