Very few authors are as talented as JR Ward....let me repeat myself....JR Ward is AMAZING!

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is what got me hooked on paranormal romance, but let me be honest...I think this is the BEST romance series ever regardless of type (historical, contemporary, midevil, western..you name it!) You MUST read this series, but you MUST read them in order. Any deviation from the chronological order of things will cheat you out of the beauty of the series. Now on to my review. Lover Unbound is an emotional read. Not quite as emotional as Lover Awakened (my personal favorite), but is definitely a close second. Vishous has a past filled with torture..at the hands of his own father. He is a tough one. We've come to know bits and pieces about him like his sexual deviancy, his love for Butch, his special "gifts" and "weapons", and his intelligence.

Jane is the HUMAN surgeon who saves his life, and to whom Vishous recognizes as his mate. She matches him toe to toe, and has quite a mouth and a backbone on her. The attraction is intense, and I believe that the love scenes involving these two are the most erotic and sensual of the entire series....(which is saying a lot)!

However there is a problem...(isn't there always :)! Vishous is a vampire and Jane is human...this doesn't work so well (ie. Rhage and Mary). Vampires can't be sustained on human blood, live forever, can't go out during the day ect.....see the problem. Both Vishous and Jane realize this, but they love eachother and want to make it work. Jane knows that being mortal means that she will age and eventually die. Despite this, she tries to balance her life as a surgeon and her status as "shellan" to Vishous.

The ending kind of bothered me...emphasis on "kind of". In order for these two to get their HEA, I knew something would have to give. Ward's answer to the question is VERY unique and unexpected, but as someone who wanted Vishous to "get the girl", I can understand and accept the necessity for the ending. I wish she had been a "pre-trans"...then this book would've been perfect.

After finishing this book, the only thing I'm thinking is "I want more"! Thank goodness Lover Enshrined is next. I hope John and Rehvenge get their stories! I love these vamps! ...more

Again, another solid book in this series. Lover Unbound is the story of Vishous or V. V reveals his terrible, tortured past with his scary father. Because of his background, V has difficulties connecting with anyone. To his surprise, he connects with Jane, a human doctor. Their love story is the primary story of this book.

The secondary story revolves around John. John is in the process of his transformation and adjusting to his new body, strengths, and needs.

Another reread of Lover Unbound is complete, and I enjoyed being back with Vishous and Jane. However, after listening to it a third time, I believe V should have had an MMF story with Butch. That’s just my opinion, and not everyone is going to agree. I loved Butch’s story with Marissa but knew V had feelings for his friend in Lover Revealed. It looks like it wasn’t meant to be, but a reader can imagine.

Don’t get me wrong; I loved Jane in Lover Unbound. She was all about her job and took it seriously, especially with a man the size of V coming through her hospital doors, and she had to treat his gunshot wound. She didn’t know exactly what V was and was fascinated with him. She handled herself amazingly well when it came to meeting the BDB members. She was a fighter, even when it came to V being stubborn and handling the rules of not telling anyone about BDB and vampires in the mortal world. She was the opposite of V, and I loved that J.R. Ward gave us a character like her to mix with the darker side of V. Although, I’m ticked with what J.R. Ward did to Jane towards the end. No spoilers from me, but just know that Jane deserved better.

Everything V and Jane went through in this book, being a doctor and patient first, then switching into something more because they didn’t care about vampire politics, and they got screwed over. I wished I could love this book as I did in my twenties when I first read it, but being close to forty now and realizing what was done, nope, I can’t justify five stars. I almost gave it three stars, but I didn’t want to do that to V and Jane.

I would have also loved to see more of V’s BDSM side in this book, which never happened. It was hinted, but nothing where we saw him enter his BDSM space.

I may have changed my review completely for V and Jane’s book due to reading it a third time, but I did still enjoy it but didn’t love it this time around. If I reread it again, who knows, I may change my rating. I’m always finding something new when I do my rereads of one of my favorite series.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I recommend this series to Paranormal Romance readers. This series is a long one and can be overwhelming with how many characters are being introduced but don’t let that deter you. You may find your next book boyfriend in it.

It was totally unfair to V to have his shellan as a freaking ghost. I don't care how happy they are but Jane is not real! She's gone, here ghost is all poor V has left. I'm not a fan of paranormal stories but I still loved and enjoyed BDB because it sounded a lot realistic than so many other trashy paranormals. But the ghost thing was a bit too much in my opinion.
