FABULOUS!!!!! I absolutely loved this book and am so very thankful to my friend K. ODoharty for giving me the nudge I needed to pick it up and read it because it had sat on my to-read shelf for far too long!

KOTH starts off back in 1500's Scotland. A witch has determined that, some day soon, the wife of Laird Drustan MacKeltar would be the cause of her son's demise. Since her son, being a good man, made her promise not to harm the as yet unmarried Mackeltar, she devised another plan to get him out of the picture. She had some traveling gypsies put a curse on him that will cause him to sleep for eternity.

Jump ahead to present day and our erstwhile heroine, Gwen Cassidy, is on a mission. Whi TOTAL hit!

But it's tough going and when she leaves the tour group of seniors she's vacationing with for a nice quiet hike, little does she know that events are about to converge that will grant her desires beyond her imaginations!

While hiking, her knapsack tumbles off a ledge and when she attempts to retrieve it, SHE ends up going for a tumble as well. Falling into a hidden cave, she finds herself face to pecs on one hunky sleeping beauty. Much to her further surprise, she ends up awakening the sleeping laird of old!

Naturally sparks fly immediately and when Drustan demands she take him to his home he quickly find he's not in Kansas anymore! When they reach his lands, he discovers everything he knew is lost to time. Knowing something isn't right, in desperation he talks Gwen into entering into the magic circle of stones with him sending them back in time to just before the events occurred that caused his eternal sleep.

One problem for Gwen, he's forgotten her and naturally does not trust this woman who claims he's taken her virginity- which of course he has! Gwen is desperate to get him to believe, because if she doesn't he will be lost to her, and those he loves most will be destroyed. Of course, they eventually do change history. Unfortunately, the witch is still determined to stop the Mackeltar's marriage- no matter what the cost.

Lots of twists and turns in KOTH and man is it great escapist reading. Not only do we get the magic of paranormal romance, which you know I just love, but we also get the historical setting, and best of all- all kinds of sizzling sexual attraction!

4.5 out of 5 from me! Not to be missed in Moning's Highlander series! ...more

What a fun book! I really had no idea how they would get an HEA, and just when thought I did, I got a smack to the forehead and a "Wait for it..." I loved Drustan to bits and thought Gwen a formidable partner for him. The time travel was handled well, not an afterthought or a flimsy excuse for a costume party. Can't wait to finish the series. ...more

After disliking the first book of the series, I was distraught, not knowing how to read this series. Afterall, I had fallen in love with Ms. Moning's world (from the Fever series) and wanted more. My friends advised me to restart the series from book 4, with the MacKelters. Good idea, since I wanted to learn about the druids who raised Christian and I wanted some preface before I read about Adam Black.

So, again we have a modern woman, our heroine, Gwen, stumble upon her Highlander, Drustan, ench After disliking the first book of the series, I was distraught, not knowing how to read this series. Afterall, I had fallen in love with Ms. Moning's world (from the Fever series) and wanted more. My friends advised me to restart the series from book 4, with the MacKelters. Good idea, since I wanted to learn about the druids who raised Christian and I wanted some preface before I read about Adam Black.

So, again we have a modern woman, our heroine, Gwen, stumble upon her Highlander, Drustan, enchanted into a 500 year long nap.Alright, it wasn't exactly like that in other highlander time travel books, but close enough. After (sorta) kissing him awake, they work together to get out a cave and deliver Highlander man to his castle. While doing this, they battle raging lust for each other, dressing him in clothes that actually fit, and riding small European cars. The problem is that Drustan is not only a man of the past, but he's a time-traveling druid with some trust issues. After being rejected at the alter 3 times, he wasn't taking chances with Gwen and proceeds to take her to the past, after falling in love with her and taking her virginity, of course. But past Drustan doesn't remember Gwen and surely doesn't trust her. But somehow, Gwen returns him his memory (I don't really want to spoil everything, because it was sorta funny) and they reunite. But the problems aren't over yet. The reason for Drustan's enchantment is still out there and they have to figure that out before they lose each other again.

I'm impressed with myself. No spoilers, this time, though I am sorely tempted to do so. This has lots of time-traveling and frequently plays with logic when the couple wasn't playing with each other. And this time, we don't have Fae to do their magic and play around with people's lives.

Gwen was a pretty good heroine. If it wasn't for the narrator's voice, I believe I should have loved her. She's a physicist who grew up with cold parents and wants some warmth in her life. Unfortunately, as a 25 year old virgin on a tour with the elderly, there are few choices to find her "cherrypicker". I thought that term was hilarious. Anyway, after she meets the hero and thinks him insane, she was vacillated between bitchy and horny. When she ended up in the 16th century, I started liking her considerably. She was tenacious and strong, while becoming likeable. Personally, I think it's because she stopped wanting a cigarette.

Drustan, as most Highlander heroes, is huge, stubborn and arrogant. But he also happens to be super smart and a druid (I don't understand why, I find Druids sexy). As my friend, Moss previously stated, he realized his "latent pedo tendencies" once he met his "midget" heroine. I liked Drustan, a lot, more than any other highlander hero, because he was genuinely a softie inside. In fact, I would say all the MacKelters are like so, with a tender heart hidden under layers of brain and brawn.

The secondary romance with Drustan's father and housekeeper was adorable (don't worry, not explicit, just lots of cuteness - didn't detract from the main story at all). I'm looking forward for Dageus's story. He sounds delish. And Ms. Moning plants a cliffhanger with his story at the end of this one, so I can't wait to read about him.

Overall, this was a pretty entertaining book. I think I shall continue the series, especially with the Dageus as the next hero. The gypsies and the villainess were whatevs in this book, but I guess they were just necessary to get the hero and heroine to meet - so I am not going to complain. ...more

I don't know if I could have read the print version of this book. I think it would have been a little much for me. As it stands, I downloaded the audio from the library. I had some work to do and an audiobook makes the time go so much faster. I'm beginning to think this narrator is in a lot of books, but goodness, he does a great job at everything. Everyone has a unique voice. It was so fun to hear the Scottish brogue being pronounced correctly. By correctly, I mean better than what I would have I don't know if I could have read the print version of this book. I think it would have been a little much for me. While I enjoyed the narrator and his voices, I can't say I can say the same about the actual storyline. Of course, I didn't read the synopsis, so I didn't know what the story would be about. I just (really) liked the cover and the book was available to download so I went with it. My problem is that the story is really, really ridiculous. And I know that whoopie is kind of a blase thing to most people, I personally didn't agree with the main character and her reason for going to Scotland. I wanted to give her a lecture on self respect. But it's a book and she made up her mind to do it.

At any rate, she comes across Drusten and everything between them happens over what, two or three days? Couldn't have been much longer than that. Things between them happened wayyyy to fast. And no, I don't mind love at first site. I just think that there should be something there to make the story interesting. This one lacked that something. And am I the only one who thought that the moment they hooked up seemed too rushed and contrived. It was like, hey I need this for the plot, soooo let's make it happen. Then it happens and oh look we're out of time. You'll know what I'm talking about when you read it.

I did enjoy the clothing store scene. I thought that was pretty funny seeing him react to modern times. I'm pretty sure I laughed out loud with that one.

I was surprised at what happened but then I was happy with how things turned out (for the most part - who did the dusting?). I like my stories to end happy, and this one was certainly a happy ever after.

All in all, I'm glad I listened to it because now if I see the Phil's name as the narrator, I know that's a sign for me to jump all over that! And I will be adding my review for the next book in the line, his brothers story. I don't see myself listening to any more of these kinds of stories though. Twice is enough! ...more

A really fun romance with a little time travel mixed in to add a little spice. This is my favorite of the 4 I have read so far. I liked the humor and plot twists. The ending was unexpected which is always a plus. The characters were Multidimensional and very likable. I can see myself rereading this book a few times.

The only reason this book did not get 5 stars was due to the fact that, towards the end, it dragged a bit and was too similar to a previous book in the series for my taste.

Other than that it was fabulous! It was angsty, snarky, hilarious, heart wrenching, and it had some twists in it that even I didn't see coming! ...more

I'm still liking the series....though there are a few common things I'm finding with each book. 1, I've yet to really like any of the heroines...that could just be how they're narrated and they all follow the same pattern in the end...

But...one good pattern is they're super sexy, hot and romantic! ...more
