One of my favorite books in this series. Rehv and Ehlena are such a sweet couple. I knew from the moment that Rehv was attracted to Marissa that he would end up with a female like that, not too rough and aggressive, but of a good family, with a back bone, but sweet and caring.

I wasn't going to read this book after reading Lover Enshrined....I really wasn't. I gave Lover Enshrined a mere 2 stars because I felt NOTHING in the "chemistry department" between Phury and Cormia. This is NOT a problem in this book. The chemistry between Rehvenge and Ehlena is unbelievable, and I'll put up with a lot of "things" as long as I believe in the main couple. Rehvenge and Ehlena made me BELIEVE!

Ward is definitely telling a BIG story with this series. There are multiple story lines I wasn't going to read this book after reading Lover Enshrined....I really wasn't. I gave Lover Enshrined a mere 2 stars because I felt NOTHING in the "chemistry department" between Phury and Cormia. This is NOT a problem in this book. The chemistry between Rehvenge and Ehlena is unbelievable, and I'll put up with a lot of "things" as long as I believe in the main couple. Rehvenge and Ehlena made me BELIEVE!

Ward is definitely telling a BIG story with this series. There are multiple story lines going on, and again, I will deal with that as long as I feel a connection to the book's main couple. Rehvenge "the symphath" is a unique character that I've been itching to hear more about. This book scratches that itch! Rehvenge is devoted to the women he loves...his mom, Bella (his sister), Zhex (his "partner"), and mostly Ehlena (his mate). He is as "bad" as they come, but has incredible sweetness and vulnerability when it comes to his ladies....don't you love that common "vamp" trait. He also is a "tortured soul", as so many members of the BDB have been, and his "redemption" is just as satisfying.

Like I said....this is a BIG story and the layers and complexities are mounting. John Matthews and Zhex are going to get their book next..and let me tell you, I think we'll all be standing in line for that one! Wrath and Beth play a HUGE part in Lover Avenged and I like when Ward brings back the HEAT from past books. Most all the brothers get some "time" in this book and the pages fly by as you "devour" this book to see what's going to happen next.

I have come to accept that this series has "morphed"...ie.(no longer just paranormal romance). I have new expectations. I now know that the "main couple" of a book will not always get center stage. There will be multiple story lines happening (all equally important to the story), and there is a definite new level of violence going on in the war. Knowing all this, I will keep reading as long as the chemistry stays hot between the "leads".

Rhev is portrayed as a man of many secrets, some of which are damaging to his position in the vampire world. Rhev is approached with a proposition that he kill Wrath, the vampire king. Rhev’s love interest is Ehlena. Ehlena comes from a “fallen” glymera family. She works as a nurse and takes care of her schizophrenic father. Ehlena meets Rhev at the clinic and takes an interest in Rhev. When Rhev is with Ehlena, he becomes a different person. He is smitten by her, he is loving and loyal.

I enjoyed this book because it did not only focus on one of the Black Dagger Brothers (and technically Rhev is not a Brother). It focused on the relationships of the Brothers, especially Wrath and Beth. It always amazes me that these large, imposing men can be turned to mush by their small female. We also get a picture of Zsadist and Bella’s happy ever after life with their young, Nalla.

I took a small dislike to John Matthew in this book. I found that he acted childish and impulsive. His relationship with Xhex was an exercise in miscommunication, although I blame both characters for that. I hear that may change in the next book.

The sworn enemies of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Lessers are becoming more of a threat under the leadership of Lash. Lash is still as vile as he was in the earlier books. His leadership of the Lessers provides more cohesiveness to their attacks.

J.R. Ward has a most special writing style. If English is not your first language, her slang and made up words must be daunting. Oftentimes, I would reread a sentence or two to figure out exactly what she meant. She does have a creative way of describing things – like “minimall sprawlopolis” and “phatasmagasm”, although I’ve been told that the latter word is in the Urban Dictionary.

I am very sad this is the last book at the moment.i am getting withdrawals already! this one was my fav of the series as well as bella and z's story. even the lesser parts were more interesting w lash!

Ohhh, how I loved this book.
Though, I admit, I stalled and I could've finished this book a long time ago - it's completely worth the read.

I wasn't so interested in Rehv at the start of the series - until now.
