I've really like all of the IAD up till now, but I just couldn't get into this one. I think I like a more confident hero. The whole unsure, timid lover thing kind of threw me. This one just felt like it didn't flow very well. It seemed there were times where there was a conversation missing or something. I had to really think (terrible, I know) about what may or may not have happened, and sort of make up scenarios in my head from the little text given. I adore Kresley Cole. And I love her Immortals After Dark series. But this was my least favourite book out of the whole series. And I think I might have mentally given it 3 stars, but my loyalty towards the author, automatically pushed my rating up with another star.
I just have this weird aversion to characters being ghosts…don’t know why…

Anyway, so Neomi is a beautiful former burlesque dancer turned ballerina, she acquires riches through hard work, and being a social butterfly. She is also engaged to a very prominent and wealthy man of status….All seems to go well, until, on one stormy night, le fiancée reveals a jealous streak. And on the night of her celebration party, she is gruesomely murdered by the fiancée no less, in front of all party goers!! People stare in horror as the fiancée grips the knife and turns the blade whereby ensuring Neomi never wakes again, after which he takes the cowardly way out and slices his own throat ,ear to ear! A dyslexic version of Romeo and Juliet, if Romeo had the “If-I-cant-have-you-no-one-else-will” kind of mentality. Neomi lays on the floor, feeling herself dieing with every blood gurgling breath she takes. But she refuses to die, she refuses to let go of all she’s worked so hard for. Alas, she turns into a ghost forever bound to the place she once called home. Elan Court.
Enter, Conrad Wroth, the youngest sibling in the Wroth clan, also, by far the craziest. And not crazy in a good way ladies. Here we have a vampire turned against his will by his eldest brother, Nikolai Wroth. He prowls the night, drinking of warlocks and demons alike…to death… gaining unimaginable strength! And also, unimaginable insanity… voices that aren’t his, memories that aren’t his…his eyes are blood red. All 3 Wroth brothers and my all time favourite Lykae, Bowen had to combine powers to subdue him. After which they hid him in, surprise surprise… Elan Court.
Neomi realises Conrad can see her, Conrad realises there is another entity in the house… a beautiful entity… a ghost!!
Personally, I could have done without the extended scenes they have in the house. Although it tried to connect the reader to the lead characters… I just feel it was way too long.

Conrad escapes, goes and seek vengeance against some warrior clan or other. (I forgot the specific name of the clan). In the mean while Neomi is sulking because Conrad called her all the insults in the world, for hiding the key to his freedom, forcing him to chop off his OWN HAND!!! She makes a deal with my all time favourite Witch , Mariketa the Awaited, in which she aims to become human again, though the spell isn’t full proof and she will die shortly after having obtained humanity, she decides to throw caution to the wind and go for it. She goes out and has an “all girl evening” with the Valkyrie and Witches. She flirts with the Rage Demons. Long story short, Conrad traces to her, realises his heart is beating he can feel and *gasp!* Neomi is his bride!!!!
After numerous arguments, intrinsically sensual bedroom scenes, a fight in the gardens / bayou which will leave you gasping… and Nix, the soothsayer Valkyrie dropping out of a tree, Conrad finally found peace, with his gorgeous phantom wife and possible future twins. Which will, when called for bath time … according to Nix, hide in walls, a la the phantom mother, and use their fangs to hang onto door frames, a la vampire father.

This is one of my favorite paranormal series. The heroes are just too yummy for words. Who'd have ever thought that a half-crazed virgin vampire could be SO sexy? Well, trust me, he is. Plus, I love how we get to see some of the couples from the previous novels. That gets a definite thumbs up from me.
