Many of them have led hard lives already, and they are tough, angry and unforgiving. They often fight with the Socs, the group of wealthy, privileged boys who beat them up for fun.
Ponyboy is shy and quiet. He gets good grades and likes to draw and read.His oldest brother Darry takes care of the family, since their parents died in a car crash. There are a few other members of their gang, including Dally and
Johnny.Dally is one of the oldest, and certainly the toughest. He seems to enjoy being a criminal. He thinks the law is a joke. Johnny is even shyer than Pony. His parents abuse him, so he always seems scared. He is the pet of the group. Recently, Johnny was beat up very badly by a Soc wearing heavy rings.
One night, Dally, Johnny and Pony meet two beautiful Soc girls,
Cherry and Marcia. Cherry is smart and dreamy like Ponyboy, and they
have a good conversation. On the way home, the girls' boyfriends catch them all together. It turns out that Cherry's boyfriend is Bob, the same boy who beat Johnny up. Later that night, Ponyboy comes in late and gets into such a fight with Darry that he runs to the park with Johnny just to get away from the house. Bob and his friends find Pony and Johnny there, and nearly drown Pony in a fountain.
Terrified and angry, Johnny stabs Bob to death. The two boys run to find Dally, knowing he will know what to do. He gives them money and tells them to hide in a church a short distance out of town. They stay there for a few days, reading to each other and talking about poetry and sunsets. (Johnny is thoughtful like Pony, and they get along very well.) When Dallas comes to find them, they tell him they want to turn themselves in. Before they can, however, the church catches fire and several small children are trapped inside.
Without thinking, the boys rescue them, and a large piece of burning wood falls on Johnny and breaks his back. Pony spends a short time in the hospital, then gets to go home. That evening there is a big fight between the greasers and the Socs, which the greasers win. One of Bob's friends does not fight, because he is sick of all the hate and anger around him.Cherry, meanwhile, has become a spy for the greasers, which pleases Ponyboy but also angers him: he doesn't want charity. After the rumble, Dally and Ponyboy go to see Johnny, who dies.Dally is overwhelmed, and runs out of the hospital. Soon after, back at home, Darry and the others get a phone call from Dally. He has robbed a liquor store. The boys run out to find him and hide him, but the police are chasing him. He pulls out a gun. Ponyboy knows it isn't loaded, but he knows that Dally knows the police think it is. The police shoot Dally, and Pony knows Dally wanted to die. Pony faints and stays sick for nearly a week. Ponyboy is so upset by Johnny's death that for weeks he pretends to himself (and everyone else) that he himself killed Bob, and that Johnny is still alive. After the trial, however, when the judge decides that Ponyboy did nothing wrong, Pony begins to admit to himself that Dally and
Johnny are both dead. He decides to write about himself for a class
assignment, so he can let other people know what life for a greaser is like. He is sure that there are many boys across the country just like him. He also recognizes, finally, that Darry loves him. He sees that Darry was just being overprotective when he yelled at him. He feels that, for the first time, he and his two brothers form a family. ...more

This book was really good I love this book. Well I'm not going to tell you everything I'm just doing a couple of the big events and details. First let me introduce the characters Ponyboy:full of love, Sodapop: the middle man, Darry:the mom and dad of pony and soda. Johnny: the gang's pet. Two-Bit: the wisecracker. Steve: soda's best bud,Bob:a soc who was spoiled, Randy:a soc who was kind-hearted,Cherry:a soc who is kind-hearted and sees the sun-sets to,Dally: really had a soft heart. The difference between the greasers and socs are that greasers empress there emotions and the socs have a wall up. The first little big event was when Ponyboy got jumped by some socs. Then when Marcia,Cherry,Two-Bit,Ponyboy,and Johnny were coming from the movies then some socs spotted them and Marcia and Cherry left. Afterwards Johnny and Ponyboy fall asleep in the lot and when Ponyboy wakes up in leaves and sneaks into the house. Then the crazy part between the brothers conflict Darry smacks Ponyboy (the music in the background). So Ponyboy ran back to the lot and they decided to get away but some drunk socs came and messed up there dream. Innocennt Johnny was put in crazy poistion to either save Pony or walk away. Well Johnny chose to save Ponyboy and he killed drunk Bob. Meanwhile they are on the run so they went to Dally which he gave them a gun and some cash and told them to go to Windrillxe. When they finally got to Windrillxe after awhile Johnny told POnyboy they have to cut there hair and bleach it because they had their descriptions. Meanwhile the old church catches on fire and Ponyboy and Johnny rescue the kids. And if you read my piroject this is what I'm talking about when I say greasers becoming heros. But the sad part is Johnny and Dally are rushed to the hospital. Oh I forget Ponyboy went to the hospital to for little bruises, no one cares about him. Poor Johhny broken his back and has third degree burns,and Dally got burned on his arm I believe. Then the big part is the rumble, the greasers win. Last but not least Dally and Ponyboy rushed to the hospital to see Johnny and they talked to him for a little bit then....... Ha Ha I hope you wasn't thinking I was going to tell you everything you are going to have to find the rest out by yourself.

I read The Outsiders By: S.E. Hinton and i found it very interesting. The Outsiders is a very good book. It talks about things that really happens in real life. For example the violence in this book is very realistic which involves gangs , weapons , rumbles , thugs , drinking and more. This book has a lot of tension building up with drama coming along. If the first time I saw this book was outside of school, I would of looked at it, read the back, and then put it back down. I would of done this because I've read the back of The Outsiders, and to me it was very boring, and didn't make me want to read the book. But when I was forced to read the book I started to enjoy it. what i learned about this book is that dont bully anyone else like if your in a popular group and you dont like the poor group then dont bother them cause their not popular like u and if u are a bully then stop bullying other people that not as welthy as you are. Also in the outsiders you should not want to fight to just get the popular group to stop bothering u and hurting you. So that the police would not catch them.They just play cards and reading. When Dally came to get them they stocked up on food and Johnny decided to turn himself in. While they were going back to the church they saw that it was on fire and that there were kids inside. Johnny and Ponyboy went inside and saved all the kids but Johnny and Ponyboy had got injured. They were rushed to the hospital where they found out that Johnny had severe burns but Ponyboy was in good shape. That night, the Socs and greasers had a rumble and their were a lot of people that got hurt. Then the greasers won the big rumble. They went back to the hospital to go tell Johnny that they won the rumble . After a few minute Johnny had died. Then Dally couldnt it that Johnny had died because that was his best buddy. Then Dally stole some food from the store and the cops started chasing him when they got him he raised up his gun then the cops shot him.

The Outsiders is an great story which really is a assay written by Ponyboy. I Think The Outsiders was a very good book because it is about a boy (named Ponyboy) that faces death and anger though out the book. When we first read this I thought it was boring but when we had read more i kinda liked it. I think this book is really about people that are divided into 2 groups the Soc and Greasers and the Soc's known as "The Good One's" which is not true.Ponyboy is shy and quiet. this book is a very great book it teaches many lessons like fighting is not good and it always has a bad consequence. the reason i like this book the best is because of the action and the excitement. this story has some harsh consequences like when phonyboy went to the rumble he got hurt pretty bad because he went to the rumble. other consequences are johnny stabbing that Soc because of violence.

I learned a couple things from this book. I learned that death is not the end of the world, friendship will last forever and love lasts a long time. The main characters were Ponyboy, Soda, Darry, Dally and Johnny. The Outsiders was about these boys going through rough times and didn't take it very easy. The book the OutSiders was one of the best book i read so far. S.E Hinton did a really great job telling this story of 2 of the high school gangs. I learned alot from the book. Such as how u can be a loving person and show people that u r not scared to fight when u need to. Ponyboy showed that type of feelings and so did johnny. The Outsiders is about a group of kids/teenagers who struggles with life problems like kids today.

The Outsiders Is An Essay Written By The Narrator Ponyboy Curtis. His Life Has Just Begun As A Young Greaser In A World Were Only Soc's Are Known As "The Good One's". I Liked The Ousider's A Lot.
