I apparently felt differently than most readers about this book.

As I mentioned in an earlier update, I had to go from CD to book because the story was dragging horribly, and that gave me the opportunity to scan the uninteresting parts. By that, I meant that I would scan or skip a paragraph on occasion. I started the hardback at the 35% percent point of the book. At the 60% mark, I started skipping chapters.

A solid 4-star book. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from my now favorite author. I can't give 5 because it doesn't match up to his great books: Pale Horse, Point of Impact, Time to Hunt. However, this is as close to 5 as it comes. He stays in great form with a great story that hooks you from the beginning. It's told in a theater that I enjoy reading:guns and WWII. One of the best works Stephen Hunter has ever written; it may very well be his best. Entertaining on so many levels. Bob Lee Swagger may have been slowed a bit by age, but he just keeps getting tougher, and smarter. Made me want to go back, and read the series all over again.

Always a treat when Hunter brings us another "Bob the Nailer" saga...this on involves three related stories woven together...a WWII female Russian sniper...Bob and a reporter researching her disappearance...and Israeli intelligence seeking to stop a terrorist attack...It was pure entertainment getting "lost" in this one! ...more
