I put this on the "Thriller" shelf as well as my historical fiction shelf. It is and it isn't. Hunter is a good writer and this is also a good book. We've picked up Bob Lee's story here and (like your reviewer) he's getting a bit...long in the tooth. Vietnam was 50 years ago, ended in '73 ('75 actually) which is 40 years ago.
Here the story takes up some well trod ground, the Kennedy assassination. Like so many others Bob get's involved in figuring out the conspiracy.

It is hard not to compare books by the same author, but..... I thought this one lags behind all the others I have read. I crave the gritty action we all saw in Point of Impact and Black Light! While the JFK assassination is a very interesting and overly discussed topic, I thought the story was drug out a little too much with not enough suspense and kick butt. Still one of my favorite characters though!
Finding it really hard going as it is just research time for Bob and there isn't any action apart from about 2 pages. It is a bit yawn worthy in places but I am persisting with it as Stephen Hunter hasn't let me down yet.... Even with Soft Target!

Hunter, one of the best in the "action-thriller" genre...Bob Lee Swagger, one of the enduring "action-thriller" characters...and a Kennedy Assassination conspiracy...quite a combination for the beach...great action and fun!!!
