Second book of the Elemental Assassin series. better than the first one.

Gin's mentor and former handler is dead. So in honor of his wishes she has retired. But her day to day life has quickly become unbearable when she finds out that running a restaurant and living with her passion (which is cooking) isn't enough to satisfy a retired assassin. So when a girl visits her restaurant and asked to speak to her dead mentor using his old moniker, Gin's curiosity(which often leads her to trouble) is pricked. When she learned that a rich miner's former harassment to the girl's family turned to death threats she has agreed to take out her knives and go back to her old ways to help the girl and his grandfather.

The story quickly becomes interesting when Detective Donovan Caine comes back to the scene and the villain turned out to be not just a dwarf but a stone elemental like Gin. Add Jake MacAllister, son of Mab's attorney to the mix and it may just be the most dangerous hits Gin has ever have to do.

Ok. I lied. The more powerful enemy, Jake MacAllister and the fact that Gin has to make the hit inside Mab's own mansion isn't the interesting bit in the story. And it's certainly not Donovan Caine. I really didn't like him in the first book and I came to hate him in this one. if he's useless in the first, in this book he's a stain in a white cloth(Sorry :P )
In the first book he at least had some role in the hit and even helped with some mundane tasks but in here all he ever did is helped carried things and give Gin a 'big O' which he quickly regrets again. I'm glad he's leaving and although there's a lot of possibility for his coming back in future books, I hope Gin quickly loses her heart to Owen before this happens. Yes! Owen Grayson! Finally a worthy candidate for gin's affections. He wasn't in the book enough to make a big impact but boy did he make a big impact:D Maybe I'm just desperate for a little bit more worthy male lead but I'm certainly for team Owen. He's showing a lot of potential with his looks, his confident character and most of all with his elemental power. So far it's only a minor metal elemental but I'm betting he didn't become confident and successful without a trick or two up his sleeves. ^-^ Now I'm really looking forward for the next book.
