Here I thought it could not get better than Pillars of the Earth, but I loved this book even more! I just loved or hated the characters with such a passion that I could not let the book down. I do not usually have such strong feeling towards characters as I had this time. Highly recommended! One of my all-time favourite books in one of my all-time favourite trilogy.

Even though it was quite long at just over 1000 pages, the story line was engaging and moved along quite well. I especially enjoyed reading about the Black Death, its spread through Europe and medical beliefs at the time.
