I would have rated this book higher if it didn't move so slowly. I nearly gave up on this novel half a dozen times. Then some little new bit of the plot would be revealed and I would be drawn back to it. However, the story doesn't get very suspenseful until the last third of the book.

This book took me a good bit to get into. It didn't hook me until about 200 pages in, and then once I was hooked I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the author's description of Barcelona and the language he used to describe the setting. At certain points in the story the scenes were so suspenseful and dramatic that my heart started racing. I really enjoyed this read and look forward to reading more of this author's books. ...more

Definitely a page-turner, really multi-dimensional characters and setting that fully engulfs the reader for its entirety. The kind of story a book-lover would love. Would classify it as magic realism.
