Room is a wonderful story, told from the point of view of a 5 year old boy as he is introduced to the "real" world. His first five years were spent in an 11x11 foot room with his mother. His entire existence consisted of the items in the room and what his mother taught him. They did have some books to read, and watched some television. Told from the perspective of five-year-old Jack who was born in captivity to an imprisoned mother; whose entire world consists of an 11 x 11 foot room; whose only social interactions are with his Ma, some inanimate objects, and characters on TV. His unique view of the world and what is real vs. not real is what makes this book so intriguing.
Told from a precocious five-year old's point of view, we learn of Jack's life--born in captivity, raised by a caring mother, and then exposed to the "real" world.

I could not put Room down. The characters were well-rounded, particularly Jack. He was such a vibrant character and, after getting used to his voice, it was fun to experience the story through his eyes. There were a few things I did not care for in the story, but to avoid spoilers, I will keep those to myself. I enjoyed the story overall and found it difficult to put the book down.

First half of the book was captivating. The world created fascinating when told from a 5 year olds perspective. However half way through it loses steam. When discovering the world a five year olds perspective is great but to listen to that 5 year old for hours one end tends to be too much. The book should have ended much earlier. Though I did like the last chapter.
