There are little nuggets of real insight in Nausea that I really connected with; the feeling of being surrounded by cardboard scenery, hands like cold, white fish. But these nugs seem to be wrapped in an opaque early 20th century French-ness that was lost on me. There's a strange scene involving spanking a man with a hole in his face until he bled, and then drawing a face of Deroulede on his butt.
