Okay. I know that there was a gap and that Erak's Ransom should've been a few books before, but either way I really enjoyed this book. So, we get more insight in Will's feelings ln becoming a fully fledged Ranger, and my favourite part was the ending where he received his Silver Oakleaf; Defintely written well and described the emotions of Crowley, Halt and Will perfectly. It was cute that everyone jumped out to surprise him!

I definitely had a lot of emotions in this novel- it made me laugh, cry, fret, and jump for joy.
There were some really really really nice scenes that made me cry; which would be the ones mainly involving Will and Halt's relationship, which Gilan was also involved in at times; a great character.
This is a small and unimportant detial, but I impressed with the rangers outfits for Half abd Lady Pauline's wedding- which was a sweet wedding at that.
Cassandra/Evanlyn annoyed me at times when she would worry if Will and Horace where looking at her, admiring or being jealous at contact with other men. A bit petty if you ask me. But as the story went on, she sorta ditched that snotty attitude and kept a brave face, especially when they were to be beheaded; I really admired her courage and strength. Those few chapters at the end changed my perception of her.
It was nice having Horace, Will, Halt and Gilan reunited as a big group again. And the Skandians are certainly becoming a favourite of mine; have really got my heart with their loyalty and their nature.
The landscape choice of a desert was an interesting choice. Can't say that I liked it to the extremes, but it was a nice change from snow covered ground or woods. It was interesting to watch these characters in a completely different climate. Watching the Rangers navigate through desert sands and suffer through sandstorms was interesting. In fact Will's almost fatal mistake is caused because of his unfamiliarity with his surroundings. An once again, even though he was unsure at times of his confidence and skills, as he realised he wouldn't be an apprentice for much longer, Will saves the day. And just in time too! Everything in the whole book was perfect. One of my favourites in the series: so much action and dialogue was near perfection, annnddd emotions were portrayed extremely delicately. I could connect with each character with ease whether they were new or old. A pat on the back for you Flanagan. A pat on the back indeed. ...more
