Maybe the newness of the idea has simply worn off, but I didn't enjoy this second in the Alvin Maker series as much as I had the first. I still found the characters fascinating. And the plot of the history that might have been was pretty well-done, too. But the conceit of the place names, not quite the same as the actual place names, and of the people, not quite the same as the historical people with those names, wore pretty thin. ...more
