The Last of the Mohicans takes place in 1757 during the French and Indian War. The British and the French North American colonies were fighting each other, and each had their respective Native American allies supporting them. This was unbelievably painful to read. One of the worst books I have ever suffered through. The only interesting sentence of the book is the last one (ambiquity of meaning), otherwise it's a terrible book. The way the native people are represented - the way women are described as objects which have to be carried from place to place - the "I am a man without a cross" racial purity s-t - the fact that the book is plain boring and that Cooper is deliberately alienating his audience - these are some ...more
