Despite all controversial reviews about this book, I really liked it.
What intrigues me is why this book is considered as a "banned" one.
According to Wiki, "in 1960, a teacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma was fired for assigning the novel in class; he was later reinstated. Between 1961 and 1982, The Catcher in the Rye was the most censored book in high schools and libraries in the United States. I read this in high school and didn't much enjoy it. I know it's a classic and quite typical high school fare but I think it's too advanced for most high school students to enjoy.
The story is at best morose and while an honest depiction of a lost young man in a downward spiral it's probably NOT the best fodder for young minds.
As an adult I can appreciate it more, but I can now easily understand my earlier reacton to it. ...more
