The first time I read this was in 1974. I had forgotten all the details. This second reading was just as enjoyable as the first. But with time, our impressions change, and I could not fail to notice a hint of racism in his treatment of the Indian characters. In spite of this, there is also a positive hint at condemning the British rule in India.

I don't tend to read mysteries/detective fiction, anyway not since my youth when I devoured every Hardy Boys book my library held, and they held a lot of them if not all.
